Farmer’s Choice Limited, one of Africa’s leading producers of fresh and value-added meat products, has achieved FSSC 22000 Version 6 certification, a globally recognised benchmark for food safety management systems.
The certification reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering safe, traceable, and sustainably produced meat products that meet international standards.
The Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000) is built on ISO standards and is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
It provides a comprehensive framework for identifying and managing food safety risks across the entire value chain, from the sourcing of raw materials to processing, packaging, and distribution.
For Farmer’s Choice, the milestone enhances its standing as a responsible food producer while opening pathways to expanded access in both local and international markets.
It also strengthens internal systems through continuous monitoring, auditing, and process improvement across its integrated operations.
“Food safety is not an add-on for us; it is foundational to who we are and how we operate,” said Felisters Gitau Mutugu, Chief Executive Officer of Farmer’s Choice Limited.
“Achieving FSSC certification validates the systems, people, and discipline behind our integrated farm-to-table model, and reinforces our commitment to meeting the highest global food safety standards.”
The certification was issued by Bureau Veritas, a global provider of testing, inspection, and certification services.
According to Cyprian Kabbis, Country Chair for Bureau Veritas in Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, FSSC 22000 is among the most rigorous food safety schemes globally.
“It requires strong governance, risk-based controls, and continuous improvement. Farmer’s Choice has demonstrated a high level of responsibility in its food safety management systems, reflecting a genuine commitment to consumer protection and long-term trust,” he said.
Beyond boosting consumer confidence, the certification highlights Farmer’s Choice’s leadership in advancing food safety standards within Africa’s meat production sector.
It also aligns with broader sustainability goals by promoting responsible sourcing, ethical production practices, and greater transparency across the company’s value chain.
